Our Adoption Policy

Are you ready to adopt?

Ruff Road Rescue requires all potential adopters to complete an adoption application. Once the application is received the adoption coordinator will review the application and conduct an interview to determine the best forever home for each adoptable dog. Ruff Road Rescue determines the best home for each dog based on the application, interview, meet and greet, and home check. The application, interview, and home check does not guarantee an approval or adoption of a particular dog. A Ruff Road Rescue representative may recommend a different dog that is more suitable for your household. An incomplete application will not be considered for adoption. If several applications have been completed on a dog then all applications are reviewed and the best home is chosen by a Ruff Road Rescue associate. Applicants must be over the age of 21 and we prefer our dogs to go to a home with a securely fenced back yard.

Ruff Road Rescue is privately run and reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the dog based on our policies and procedures.

Why does it cost money to adopt from a rescue?
When Ruff Road Rescue takes in a dog we incur veterinary costs. Sometimes the costs are minimal, but other times the dogs we take in have significant medical needs. All of our dogs are spayed/ neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, and wormed before being adopted. All the adoption fees are used to offset the higher medical expenses of other dogs. Many people believe that rescues have connections to free/ low cost vet care, but the reality is, we do not.

Sample Costs:
Vet Visit = $50.00
Spay/ Neuter = $50-$80
Microchip = $30
Shots = $18 each
(3 puppy shots/ Rabies)

Without the additional donations of the public we would not be able to continue our efforts.

What are the fees?

- Puppies up to a year are $200-$250
- Adults one year and up are $160-$200

*Fees may differ depending on the situation
